How It All Started

I still can’t believe I’m planning a women’s conference, but I want to tell you the story of how it all started…

I never dreamt of planning anything like this. But after one especially powerful session with my coach (and now mentor), Marietta, she encouraged me to pray and ask God what other messages He might have for me.

I expected something simple…feelings of peace from the spirit, some encouragement, maybe a message of love or comfort…but instead, my mind started flooding with ideas. Specific thoughts, specific names, even the theme for a conference I was meant to plan.

I admit my reaction was kind of…

”uhh…WHAT?!?!”

The thoughts came so fast I opened a note on my phone and just started typing everything out. The first name I wrote down was Melissa “Max” Moulton.

I met Max about a year and a half ago at a different conference. Even though the topic of her class piqued my interest, I wasn’t planning to attend because I had agreed to go to another one with a friend at the same time. But during a quick bathroom break, I ended up alone in the hallway, except for a woman standing near an open door. She stopped me to compliment my hair, and we struck up a conversation. We shared a little about our experiences and I felt an inexplicable connection with her. When I realized she was Max, the speaker whose class I had originally been drawn to, I felt certain our meeting wasn’t a coincidence and I adjusted my schedule so I could attend.

What I learned from Max that day was the beginning of my journey into stillness, meditation, and connecting with Christ in a new, deeper way. Afterward, when I went up to thank her, she gave me her personal copy of the book she had quoted from and wrote her phone number in the cover so we could keep in touch. She said she felt inspired to give it to me. I think we both felt something spiritual in that exchange.

Fast-forward to a few months ago. I was sitting on my bed after my session, praying, phone in hand, typing her name into this note full of ideas that I knew didn’t come from me. Several days later, someone had prayed over me and shared a message they felt prompted to say…that the right people would come to me and that’s how I would know who was meant to be part of this. And just one day after that I got a text from Max, our first interaction in nine months! I hadn’t even reached out to her yet, I wanted to get a clearer sense of what I was building before I asked her to be part of it. Nine months since we last connected but she happened to text me that day?!? The timing couldn’t have been more clear and the words from my friend’s prayer (that people would come to me) echoed in my mind.

I called her and shared everything, and (in true Max fashion) she said yes. And not only did she say yes, she told me she had been going through some things and praying for an opportunity like this.

This is just one of the many ways God has directed my path as I’ve taken steps forward in faith, even without knowing exactly what I’m doing.

And now I get to invite you into it.

This October, Melissa Max Moulton will join us at Be Still & Know: A Women’s Conference to teach about stillness, meditation, and connecting more deeply with Christ.

Her message changed my life. I truly believe it can change yours too.

More stories and more miracles coming soon, but for now, I just had to share this part.
